Bulls back in box seat after crucial final test day

“It was a massive day for us today. Ran through our whole program and we went really well. It was great to get Scott in the car a fair bit today. I think he felt really comfortable, and you know it’s great that we fit in the same seat and that the team only had to adjust the pedals a little bit. So yeah, really looking forward to getting to Sandown after today. I’ve known Scott for a long time, he didn’t put a foot wrong today and did a massive job for us. I think he’ll be really strong at Sandown at the end of the day. He was running top 10 at a lot of racer last year as a main game driver, so he can do the job. I think the last race was great to get a podium in Tasmania, but we’re here to win.”

“I feel really good, I feel confident now getting this test day under my belt. We’ve got plenty of laps in, got a good race run under my belt and then focused on some speed as well. Just looking forward to getting to Sandown now. It’s been a very long time between drinks, so I’m looking forward to getting back in the car and a race situation, today’s been really good prep for that. I’m impressed with the team and to experience a co-driver test day with a team like Triple Eight has been an eye-opener and I feel very prepared, which is nice considering I haven’t raced main game. I feel like going into Sandown, I’m as well as prepared as I’ve ever been for racing. I’ve known Will for a long time. He’s a good lad so I think that part of it’s been easy in that, my production company actually filmed for the team Will was driving for and so I got to know him a little bit through there when we were doing their content. He’s a great guy, loves to have a laugh but he’s one of the most serious and most competitive drivers that I’ve seen. So, it’s been cool to see him working and being able to work closely with him. We haven’t turned a lap in the race yet, but everything feels promising. Driver changes practice is good. We fit in the same seat and that always makes things a lot easier. So, everything has been smooth, and he’s been kind enough to give me plenty of laps today, which has been good. Like I’ve said a few times, I’ve needed this break and turn up to two events a year with a real opportunity of doing well is what I’ve been wanting. So rather than turn up to all of them with no hope, I was very excited about this opportunity, and we all know that it’s motorsport at the end of the day. I feel like I’ve put my best foot forward – I feel fit, I feel healthy, and I’m motivated to get back in a race car, which is the main thing. I hope we have two smooth events, and we can selfishly, in those two races, snag a great result, but then also help Will in the championship.’

“All good, all comfy. Pit stops are really good, which was a big focus for today. Jamie fitted in like an old glove, almost exactly back to how it was last year. It’s great, he’s super comfy and doing a great job. Obviously, we were really strong at Sandown last year and I think Tasmania, we certainly had some speed, we just didn’t execute it. She’s a long race at Sandown, but it does go pretty quick also. I’m happy though, I’ve got a great co-driver, we’ve got a great team, I’m sure we’re going to have a fast car, so it’s just going to be about executing that weekend as a whole.”

“I started the day a little bit underdone, just needed more laps in the car. But Marty’s (Martin Short) has done a good thing for me, and gave me quite a few laps today, which is fantastic. A real opportunity to feel the car and to get comfortable. So yeah, I feel quite good going into Sandown that I’ve done enough laps and I’m feeling pretty comfortable. Couldn’t ask for a better bit of weather again. The track has been clean, really good stuff. We’ve just been running through our test program, never any silver bullets, but it’s more information for the team and official practice for me, so I feel like we’re in a good place. It’s like a blast from the past, I feel like I’ve opened a new, full chapter. I thought it had shut two years ago and now feels like another one has just opened. So, every time I jump back in the car after a while, it feels like chapter two of my racing life. Chapter 1 obviously had some good days, and I bloody enjoyed it, but this brings back awesome memories. I just want to want to continue the driving chapter as much as I can. Broc did a massive job at Sandown, last year but man, I’m still gutted for him after Bathurst last year where the car broke, while probably in the box seat for the race win. So yeah, we’ll go up there and have another good go this year.”
