Bathurst 1000 – Practice 5, 6 & Top Ten Shootout Results

Will Brown/Scott Pye – Car #87
Practice 5 – Sixth (2:07.7018)
Practice 6 – Eighth (2:06.8653)
Top Ten Shootout – Fifth (2:06.1625)

“It wasn’t the tidiest lap, I probably just didn’t maximize the car, but I haven’t felt that strong in qualifying form all this weekend, however we seem pretty good in the race laps, so hopefully it’ll come to us tomorrow and we can be fast in the race, but that’s what matters. A qualifying car is fine and always good, but if you don’t have the tyre life at the end, it’s always tough around you.”

“I’m feeling really good, actually. I think we’re in a good position for tomorrow. The one thing that gives us a lot of confidence going into the race is that I got a race run done in practice, and it seemed very competitive. I felt quite confident with the balance, and speed is there. But, payday is Sunday, so we’re in the fight. Will did a great job to maintain his qualifying position of fifth and did a good job in the shootout. It’s a long race but I think we’ve got a very solid race car. And we’ve kind of felt all weekend our race car has been stronger than our qualifying car, which is nice. We just need to stay out of trouble and capitalize on what I think is a quick car. I think tomorrow I can really contribute. I think where we’ve qualified, against some of the other co-drivers, I have a good opportunity to put us and Will in a position where he can win the race at the end. So, um, yeah, I feel very comfortable in the car, that’s why it was so important for me to get a long race run today and in a car that I’m pretty confident with. So, we’ll see how the first stint plays out. And then when I get in, of course, I want to try and contribute and give Will the car nice and straight and in a better position than when I got in.”

Broc Feeney/Jamie Whincup – Car #88
Practice 5 – 13th (2:07.9685)
Practice 6 – First (2:06.1274)
Top Ten Shootout – Third (2:05.8618)

“It was good to be in the shootout, I think we had a fast car, probably just made a couple of little mistakes which you can’t afford if you want to put it on pole here. But overall, third is a great starting spot, probably a little bit disappointed that I didn’t get to maximise the most out of the potential of the car but I think we’ve got a fast car so I’m looking forward to the 1000kms ahead of us.”

“Super solid day. I thought Broc did an amazing job in the shootout. Just maximized the car. We don’t quite have the quickest car here, but we’re certainly well and truly up at the pointy end. So to have both cars in the top five, you couldn’t ask for much more, more so heading into what’s going to be a big day. The 87 car was quite quick in the race runs today – our car is probably more of a qualifying car than a race car, so we’ll work on that tonight. We’ve got our last opportunity tomorrow morning with the warm-up to get the car right, and then off we go. But we couldn’t be happier with the place we’re at, at the moment.”
